About 306 Outfitters
306 Outfitters is a family-owned and operated business based in Adairsville, GA, dedicated to offering high-quality products at affordable prices while providing exceptional customer service. Owner Joe has deep roots in the outdoors, with a lifelong passion for hunting whitetail deer and large game in Georgia and North Carolina, as well as fishing along the Carolina shores. Born and raised in Georgia, Joe spent much of his childhood hunting and fishing with his beloved grandfather, experiences that fostered his love for the outdoors. As he grew older, his involvement with the Civil Air Patrol (C.A.P), including camping, hiking, and rucking, further deepened his connection to nature.
At 306 Outfitters, our mission is to unite outdoor enthusiasts and hunters, sharing and preserving the rich traditions of the outdoors for future generations. Joe’s own team of eager young learners embodies this mission, eagerly joining him in every adventure—whether it’s hunting, working on food plots, scouting land, or simply enjoying nature. We strive to build lasting relationships with our customers, creating a tradition that ensures when your heart calls you to the outdoors, you’re fully prepared and ready to embrace the experience.

A Healthy Herd
Maintaining a healthy deer herd involves a combination of habitat management, population control, disease monitoring, and providing adequate nutrition. As a hunter, we are also conservationist that must also put in what we take out. Always follow best practices for deer management and consult with experts or local wildlife agencies if you have questions about product use or effectiveness.
Population Control
Conducting surveys regularly(yearly) to assess the deer population’s density and health helps in making informed management decisions on harvesting. By doing so, you should implement a hunting program or culling strategy based on population. This helps overpopulation, reduce habitat degradation, and maintain balance.
The buck-to-doe ratio is a critical metric in herd management. This ratio helps ensure the health and sustainability of the herd. You ideally want an optimal ratio from 1:1 or 1:2. One buck for every one to two does. This ratio supports healthy breeding and ensures that bucks are not overburdened with mating responsibilities. This ratio can be higher in certain regions due to a higher doe population. Without this management practice, 1 of 2 incidents can occur. There are too many bucks-to-does and can lead to increased competition among bucks and possibly less effective breeding. An excess of does can result in overpopulation, habitat degradation, and increased competition for resources. Managing the number of does through culling or hunting can help achieve a more balanced ratio.
Winter Food Crops
Brassicas: This category includes plants like turnips, radishes, and kale. Brassicas are high in carbohydrates and provide excellent forage that deer will graze on in the fall and winter. They also have a high nutritional value and can help deer maintain body condition as temperatures drop.
Winter Wheat: This cool-season grain is a great choice. It germinates quickly in the fall and provides a high-energy food source.
Oats: Similar to winter wheat, oats are a good fall planting option. They offer high digestibility and energy, making them attractive to deer as they prepare for winter.
Rye: Rye is another excellent cool-season crop that grows well in fall. It provides good forage and can help keep deer on your property through the winter.
Cereal Grains: A mix of cereal grains such as barley, triticale, and rye can provide a diverse and nutritious food source for deer in the fall. These grains offer both high energy and protein.
Soybeans: If planted in late summer, soybeans can still be a valuable food source in early fall before they are harvested or die off. They are high in protein and energy.
Corn: Though typically planted earlier in the season, late-maturing corn can still be beneficial in the fall. It provides a high-energy food source and can attract deer to your property.
Summertime Food Crops
Clover: Both red and white clover are highly nutritious and attract deer. They provide a good source of protein and grow well in a variety of soil types.
Alfalfa: Alfalfa is another high-protein forage that deer love. It’s especially beneficial in summer for its nutritional value and digestibility.
Brassicas: Although often associated with fall and winter, some brassicas like turnips and radishes can be planted early spring for a late-spring or early-summer food source.
Soybeans: Soybeans are rich in protein and make an excellent summer food plot crop. They also provide a significant amount of forage and can be very attractive to deer.
Corn: While more commonly used as a fall and winter food source, corn can be planted in summer for its high energy content. It also provides cover and can be a part of a diverse food plot.
Buckwheat: Buckwheat grows quickly and provides good forage. It also helps to improve soil health by suppressing weeds and attracting beneficial insects.
Peas: Planting field peas in the spring provides high protein and is palatable to deer. They also help improve soil health by fixing nitrogen.
